Tournament Structure for the Memorial Tournament
-
The Memorial Tournament is one of 5 invitational tournaments on the PGA Tour, which means it has a smaller field of 120 players. Invitationals are not required to fill their fields using the PGA Tour Priority Ranking System. This way, the organisers can effectively choose through a unique criterion who will take part in their tournament. Whereas most PGA events will start with a field of 156, invitationals have smaller fields of between 120 and 132. The other four tournaments with invitational status are the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the RBC Heritage, the Charles Schwab Challenge and the Genesis Open.
-
The tournament runs from Thursday through Sunday, with 18 holes played each day. The field is cut after two days, where those doing poorly are dismissed and those doing well continue on to the final two days of play. At the end of the Sunday, the golfer with the lowest under-par score is crowned winner, unless the tourney ends in a tie. In this case, a three-hole play-off ensues in order to break the deadlock.
-
As well as prize money of £1.675 million, the winner of the Memorial has, since 2014, received a three-year exemption instead of two years as part of his reward. This extr𒉰a year is one greater than regular and the same amount as the World Golf Championships, the Tour Championship and the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Popular Memorial Tournament Betting Markets
Golf is one of the truly great betting sports, and the Memorial Tournament is no different. With its huge fields and structure of play, a vast number of different bet types are ge🃏nerated for lucky punters such as yourself to take advantage of. Below, we have listed and explained some of the most popular betting markets for golf, and more specif♔ically, the Memorial Tournament.
Outright Betting
An outright bet is nice and simple and comes without any complicating clauses. These bets are easy to understand because they require nothing more from bettors than to pick a potential winner and to put some money behind their predictions. To get a winning payout, all that needs to happen is for your pick to come out of the tourney as the champion. If this happe🐼ns, you will make a profit paid out according to the odds you accepted when you placed the bet.

First Round Three-Ball Betting
With three-ball betting, punters place their wagers on which player in a three-player group will post the lowest par during the first round. You can also make the same bet in the second round of a tournament. Remember though: these bets are based on the outcome of a single 18-hole round, meaning that how well your selection fares over the rest of the tourney is irrelevant. The only thing that matters is that they sho🅘otඣ a better score than the players that they have been grouped with for the three-ball betting market.

First Round Leader Betting
Another bet you can place on the first round is a first-round leader bet. This market is straightforward, and really only requires that your selection has a great first day and tops the leaderboard by the close of play on Thursday’s session. For this bet, it is worth looking into players that are known to come firing out of the blocks in tournaments such as this. If they fade after day one, so be it – your bet is closed by then. This bet can also be placed each-way.

Make or Miss The Cut Betting
A cut is enforced in tournaments to thin the field and trim down the numbers after two days' play. Players that fall short of this are removed from the tournament while the others continue. Making or missing out on the cut is the first hurdle that golfers need to clear on their way to winning a tournament such as the Memorial. Naturally, this also opens another betting opportunity where we can bet on players making or missing the cut.
